Bajio Sunglasses

We met the guys at Bajio on a fishing trip along the Alabama coast, and we clicked with them pretty immediately. But they were just cool dudes, we didn't know shit about their sunglasses. So we snagged a couple pairs on our way out to the water, hoping they'd forget about us so we didn't have to return the shades. We're cheap bastards. Avid anglers are sunglass snobs, and will bore you with how the lens technology helps with sight fishing, better sunglasses means better fishing, limiting eye strain is crucial, etc. Honestly, they're probably right. But we're too busy minimizing our sobriety whilst still maximizing our fishing to care enough about that to dive into it. What we do know is, these sunglasses are insanely light, the lenses are the clearest that we've ever tested, and the polarization does make fishing more enjoyable. You have the option between glass and polycarbonate lenses. I brought both with me on a recent steelhead trip in NY. The polycarbonates feel as if nothing is on your face they're so light, which I appreciate. However, the clarity is sharper with the glass lenses, and they just feel so much more durable. Overall I think the $50 upcharge is more than worth it for the glass. As far as model diversity goes, Bajio offers a wide variety of sizes ranging from small to extra large, so anglers with a wider head don't have to worry about feeling oppressed. They also categorize their shades by pursuit. Whether you're looking for a more tech-oriented fishing shade, a comfort focused surf pair, or the more lifestyle centered metal frames, you have options. If you struggle with OCD like myself, you'll purchase a pair for each pursuit, be pissed when you see the credit card statement, and then happy from then on. These days, companies will preach to their customers that the environment is under attack, our waters are being polluted and wildlife are being exploited. And then do nothing about it, other than make you feel guilty. Bajio actually puts their money where their mouth is through a variety of business practices. Their cases are made from cactus leather, a renewable resource, more sustainable than the traditional animal leather. Their frame factory in Italy is also devoted to investing in only environmental friendly materials and office supplies, and their packaging is naturally biodegradable. We don't always see eye-to-eye on some of these issues, but we can at least appreciate a brand that backs up their statements, instead of pandering for self benefit. Look, Bajio makes badass sunglasses that are designed specifically for the adventurer who likes to do cool shit. It just so happens that our motto is "Go Do Cool Shit". What other reasoning do you need? If you still aren't sold, Bajio actually gives a damn about the planet, and is dedicated to preserving our saltwater flats (Bajio's). So... do it for the fishing. Cost: $209-$259 Pros: Keeps the sun from destroying your eyes. Great polarization. Gives back to preserving the saltwater flats. If any chicks are reading this, they look stylish. Cons: The guys haven't invited us back for a fishing trip. Will update this review if that changes.
