Legend says that Simon Kenton beat our 7th president Andrew Jackson to a pulp, nearly killing him. Whether that's true or not, the story of Simon Kenton’s life will make any modern man feel like a wimp. If only half of his life story holds up, it still means he’s more man than you, or I, will ever be. I’m in the camp that Simon did beat Old Hickory half to death based on the sheer fact that he lived fearlessly and never took any shit. Over 6 feet tall and full of muscle, he left his home early and changed his name to Simon Butler. Without giving you an essay about his life, he left Virginia for the "Cane-tuck-ee" lands after he was suspected of killing a man, for stealing the girl he had eyes for. In a day and age where men have become soft as hell, it's important to remember how tough men used to be, not so long ago. During an imprisonment with the Shawnee Indians, Kenton was forced to run “The Gauntlet” 9 times. If you've never heard of this, essentially the prisoner, in this case Simon Kenton, would be stripped naked and be forced to run nearly half a mile through a tunnel of men, women, and children all swinging clubs. Worst of all, if you were to fall, which was likely, you would be sent back to the starting line. This type of beating would almost certainly kill a man, however Kenton was able to avoid death 9 times. Fortunately for Simon, he would eventually escape captivity and narrowly avoid death by fire. For this, Kenton's name became legend and the Shawnee feared him. In the book “The Frontiersman” by Allan Eckart, it is written that later in his life, Indians would come to the conclusion that Kenton had a divine shield around him and that they had best avoid their attempts at killing him. I’m aware that this take isn’t popular and has possibly been beaten like a dead horse, but looking back at Simon Kenton's life, embracing your masculinity and striving to be tougher, is of extreme importance. Clearly we live in a comfortable society, at least here in the United States. And while we may not have to fight Indians with our bare hands, or run The Gauntlet, we can still stay physically strong and aim to live out our full potential of manhood. In a world that looks down on manliness, especially from our government officials who have brainwashed people into believing that being masculine is toxic, I invite you to choose a different path. Hell, there's nothing wrong with wanting to be strong and dangerous. In the words of Jordan Peterson “You should be a monster, an absolute monster, and then you should learn how to control it”. Strong, dangerous men, who are cable of being a monster but only when they need to be, are better for society and the safety of us all. So go lift some weights, buy a gun and get deadly accurate with it. Be a protector, a provider, and a peace keeper. Live adventurously and don’t let society tell you otherwise. They want weak men because weak men are easy to control. Be a man. In other words, be like Kenton.
