I have too many damn guns. But is there really such thing? Growing up, one of my hunting mentors used to tell me, "You should have three guns for each bird you go after. Is it necessary? No. But it makes for a good excuse to keep buying them." That's probably what started the obsession. But truthfully, most of the guns I own haven't even pointed towards a bird or a clay. They just sit in the safe and come out when my hunting friends come over and want to take a look and give me a lowball offer. Sad. Because of this, when I buy a new gun now, I want to make sure it's a gun I can beat up, take it with me to the shooting clubs, and on my hunting trips. A do-it-all gun, one that won't collect dust in my safe, one that I can do right by. This led to my purchase of the Cynergy CX by Browning. A true hybrid shotgun, with a unique design and more versatility than any other O/U in it's class. The first thing you'll notice on the Cynergy CX is the low-profile receiver, which is due to Browning's MonoLock Hinge, which has up to 300% more surface area to pivot on than the a standard trunnion-style hinge. From first-hand experience, this thing shoulders quick, points even quicker, and get's on target in an instant. Every shooter knows how important the trigger is on a gun. Well, the trigger on the Cynergy CX is really what made me fall in love with this gun. It features a Reverse Striker Trigger, which is a mechanical system rather than using inertia. Because of this system, the trigger pull is perfectly crisp, and there's a whole lot less overtravel than any other O/U that I have shot. I spent the afternoon at my shooting club with this gun and was really impressed by how comfortable it shoulders, how seamlessly it swings, and how well it shoots, with its 60/40 POA. I have yet to take it out into the field on an actual hunt yet, however, we have a romantic date planned together for Kansas quail this fall. So buy this gun. Beat the hell out of it, fire thousands of shells through it, let the Michigan brush have it's way with the black walnut. And then give it to your children all beat up so you can tell them the stories of each battle scar. I believe that is what this gun was made for. A gun that will seldom see the inside of a gun cabinet because it is too busy adventuring. Quick Specs: 30" Barrel length. 48" Overall length. 14 1/4" Length of Pull. 1 5/8" Drop at Comb. 2" Drop at Heel. 7lb 14oz Weight. Price: $2,129.99 Pros: Beautiful and unique design; perfectly balanced; Excellent, crisp trigger; Shoulders and swings like a dream. Cons: Browning is known for their bulkier silhouettes, and this gun is no exception. If you prefer a slimmer and shorter shotgun, this might not be the one for you. Other than that, it's flawless.
